Reading Update #11 – Pet Sematary
I’m halfway through Pet Sematary, and I have to say, I have no idea why I thought reading (well, listening—this is an audiobook) about a cat dying and coming back to life would be a good idea.
If you don’t know, I have two cats whom I adore more than anything in the universe, so of course it’s impossible for me not to think about how I would act if I were in this situation. There’s an author’s note at the beginning where Stephen King says this is the scariest book he’s ever written, and that really terrified me.
And for now, what’s really annoying me is how Louis brings this cat back to life and then has the audacity to treat him terribly.
The cat, Church, has an odor that neither Louis nor his daughter Ellie can get over, so they barely allow him in the house or let him sleep with Ellie. They push him out with a broomstick or a vacuum.
That poor cat. đŸ˜ He didn’t ask to be brought back to life!
And you know what? Judd isn’t so innocent in this either. I was listening very closely, and I understand why he took Louis to the sematary, but that doesn’t mean I have to agree with it.
However, in terms of storytelling, writing, and the ability to keep my attention, I’d say it’s a good book so far. I’m definitely invested enough to see where this is going.
